Mike has been happily married for 29 years, with two grown children; Bethany (27) and Zach (23). His son Zach was a Division 1 college pitcher at the University of South Florida. A Pennsylvania native, Mike has been residing in the Tampa, Florida area for the last 25 years. Professionally, he has earned engineering degrees from Virginia Tech and Penn State, and has been actively involved with transportation technology research, field performance testing, planning, and design for over 33 years in both the public and private sectors. His highest professional accomplishments include being selected as Florida’s Transportation Engineer-of-the-Year in 1999 and Florida’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Professional-of-the-Year in 2000. He has also authored over 120 technical articles and presentations in his career, and his professional role model has always been Thomas Edison.
His love and enthusiasm for sports first began back in 1964 when his beloved Phillies had their epic collapse. He wanted to know why?…….and his interest in sports sprung from that historic moment in time. He never reached any level above high school varsity football and golf himself; but did wrestle, shot put, and played organized baseball, basketball, and tennis. With the exception of mountain climbing and skydiving, there isn’t a sport he hasn’t at least tried once. His sports heroes are Jim Brown and Bill Russell. He claims to have now watched more than 70,000 hours of sports on TV or in-person. It has also always been his dream to write and debate about sports!
