The 2013 NFL Pro Bowl was a Huge Success!

If you watched, you have to conclude that the 2013 NFL Pro Bowl was a Huge Success and a special tribute to the NFL and it’s history! In an age recently characterized by disappointing NFL Pro Bowl‘s, tonight’s game was a huge success for the NFL and it’s tradition of honoring it’s best players.  Following last year’s debacle, I wasn’t sure I even wanted to waste my time tuning into this year’s Pro Bowl.  I had other choices!  I could catch up on a bit of work.  I could tune into some mundane movie that I’ve probably seen before.  But, I’m an NFL fan, and I wanted to see what type of show the NFL would produce.  I was totally prepared to be disappointed, However, I witnessed tradition, competition and a love for the game.  I won’t declare it the best football game I’ve ever witnessed, but the 2013 NFL Pro…

Will Greg Jennings be a Green Bay Packer Next Year?

Packer wide receiver Greg Jennings is in his contract year! Greg Jennings becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this football season. This subject has been bugging me for the past couple of months.  I finally decided to write about it.  It’s now popped up at a critical time of the year for the Green Bay Packers.  It’s a time when team unity is important heading into the playoffs and contract discussions do not need to be talked about publicly.  The Packers secured a playoff position last Sunday when they defeated the Chicago Bears. Yet, the question gets asked to Greg Jennings and he responds.  Greg appears to be a stand-up guy, but I don’t believe he needs to be as upfront with the media over his contract as he is.  It may be posturing on his behalf, but I think it detracts from team unity. On Wednesday…

I had tuned out Monday Night football this evening.  What originally sounded like a great match-up between the Peyton Manning led Denver Broncos and Philip River’s San Diego Chargers quickly feel sour in the first half.  I must admit, I didn’t pay much attention to the game.  I had it on in my office as I caught up on some work.  The score at the end of the first half was 24-0 in favor of the Chargers.  Plus, the Chargers were the home team so the second half wasn’t something I was looking forward to watching. Peyton Manning orchestrates second half come from behind victory. I must also admit… I’m not a big Peyton Manning fan.  I attribute this to my own bias.  I’m a huge Brett Favre fan.  Consequently, anything positive toward Peyton Manning or Tom Brady for that matter just seemed to detract from what I believe should…

I’ve been watching closely, and it’s apparent to me that the Green Bay Packers have been sucked in by what I’ll call the Hollywood dilemma. Consequently, once this dreaded disease hits a football team they lose the need and desire to win!  Too bad! The Green Bay Packers have a great football team. In other words, they have lost their competitive advantage!  Armed with the best receiver corp in the NFL, the offense has gone flat. Aaron Rogers, last year’s NFL Most Valuable Player, is consistently bad on his deep balls.  I haven’t counted how many times he’s overthrown a wide open Jordy Nelson this year.  But, I do know that seldom happened in the past. Here’s the problem!  There are entirely too many commercials with Aaron Rogers, Greg Jennings, B.J. Ragi and Clay Mathews.  When a team, in this case,  the Green Bay Packers goes Hollywood, they totally lose their…

NFL Replacement Officials and The Innacurate Reception

It seems clear to me that the NFL is not really concerned about it’s teams and players. All they really care about is profit and maintaining the status quo as they define it. And their current definition includes the protection of their NFL Replacement Officials. Hey, profit is important, but the NFL  has taken this to another level.  Given the opportunity to make amends and overturn last night’s Replacement Ref’s egregious mistakes, they turned to the strict interpretation of the rules and refused to directly address the most obvious deficiencies of the NFL Replacement Officials.  Here is a video on the most egregious and final play of the game… compliments of the NFL: If you watched any news today, you know that the overwhelming public and professional opinion is that the NFL Replacement Officials blew this call on the Inaccurate Reception (Term Coined by ESPN’s Adam Shefter).   The NFL supported the…

NFL Replacement Officials Blew it Tonight!

I just witnessed a crime on Monday Night Football.  The NFL Replacement Officials just made perhaps the greatest series of mistakes every made in the history of the National Football League (NFL). In my opinion, the NFL just  experienced a significant blow to their reputation. I’m a huge NFL fan!  But, ending this week when we commemorate the passing of an NFL legend, Steve Sabol, President of NFL Films, the NFL blew a huge one!  I would think Steve Sabol is turning in his grave.  I doubt very much if he ever saw anything like this in his life.  However, his impact and affect on football lives on.  No doubt, NFL Films have recorded this game for posterity.  I witnessed NFL history tonight, and it was extremely disappointing.  This is game that will surely go down in history!  And, it will show the fallibility of the NFL.  So, for the first time in NFL…

ESPN NFL Live Poll Reveals Startling Facts

I watched this evening’s ESPN NFL Live show and it revealed some startling facts that the NFL is going to have to address.  According to a recent ESPN NFL Live poll, over 64 percent of respondents said they had a much more enjoyable experience watching NFL Football games at home than watching a game at an NFL Stadium. Consequently, the attendance at NFL Football is dwindling. As a long time NFL Football fan, I don’t find this surprising.  Personally, I much rather enjoy watching a game at home in front of my 57 inch big screen TV than I do sitting at some less desirable location in an NFL Football stadium. I’ve attended my fair share of live NFL games, and I’ve sat at a lot of different stadium locations.  I’ve been in the end-zone, on the 10-yard line and on the 50-yard line.  When you sit in the end-zone, the viewing angles…

What Was Junior Seau Trying to Tell Us?

By all accounts, Tiaina Baul “Junior” Seau, Jr. was more extraordinary off the field than he was on it.  He could never be the guy that accepted help; he was ALWAYS the guy helping someone else.  The 12-time NFL Pro Bowler was trying to deal with life after the cheering stopped…….and the real world took over.    A messy divorce, personal financial problems, repeated bouts with depression, a short-lived television series, physical confrontations with girlfriends, and a previous suicide attempt in 2010 all brought him to May 2nd when the 43-year old former NFL legendary linebacker and future Hall of Famer took his own life.  On the outside, Junior Seau was always upbeat and smiling, devoted to his family and community, and loved and admired by all who ever came in contact with him.  Plenty of people deal with the general type of problems he was having and continue to…
